Lahore: On August 21, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz rolled out a groundbreaking housing initiative called ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ (Our Roof, Our Home). This ambitious program aims to address the pressing need for affordable housing across the province.
At the heart of this scheme is an interest-free loan of PKR 15 lakh, designed to help residents acquire 5 marla plots in urban areas or 10 marla plots in rural regions. To ease the financial burden on applicants, the program includes a three-month grace period before repayments begin.
CM Nawaz emphasized the scheme’s accessibility, revealing that monthly installments will be set at a manageable PKR 14,000. She also announced plans for Pakistan’s largest solar program, slated to launch next year, which could potentially eliminate electricity bills for residents.
The ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ initiative will be implemented across major Punjab cities. Each house will feature two bedrooms, a TV lounge, a bathroom, and a spacious kitchen, ensuring comfortable living conditions for beneficiaries.
To streamline the application process, CM Nawaz inaugurated an online portal (https://acag.punjab.gov.pk/Layouts/Registration.aspx) where citizens can easily apply for the program. For those seeking additional information, a dedicated helpline (0800-09100) has been established.
This innovative housing scheme underscores the government’s commitment to swiftly providing quality homes to those in need. By combining affordable housing with potential energy savings, ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ represents a significant step towards improving living standards for Punjab’s residents.
